We all want the best look for our hair. Did you know there is a right way to shampoo and condition your hair? Seems simple I know, it does make a big difference.
To start, don’t think about your hair. Think about your scalp. A good hair care process always starts with exfoliating your scalp. People ask, is it safe? What do I use? Exfoliating helps loosen build-up and impurities. It will also help increase microcirculation which helps create the optimal foundation for beautiful hair.
There are several options for this process and any one of them will do the trick. Aveda’s pramāsana brush is a special brush just for this purpose. You can also use a simple hair brush, but make sure it’s gentle. Aveda’s paddle brush is perfect. And if none of those are available you can always use your finger tips. Get into the roots and shuffle those fingers around your scalp for a minute or two. Firm, but gentle. Do this pre-shower or at least before wetting your hair, it will be easier with dry hair.

Next, two rules for hair care while bathing. The shampoo is for your scalp. After exfoliating, you want to get the shampoo right up to the follicles. Don’t worry about the ends, they don’t get as dirty as the scalp. The runoff from the scalp cleansing is sufficient to clean the rest of the hair. And you don’t want to waste the product. Different hair and scalp types will benefit from specialized shampoos. For dry hair we recommend Aveda Nutriplenish line. Colored hair we recommend Aveda Color Control to preserve the longevity of your hair color. And for tried and true Aveda signature scent, Shampure is for you. Pro-tip; this is available in both hair care and body care products.
The conditioner, on the other hand, is for the hair itself. Keep this from the scalp but get as much of your hair as possible down to the ends. This is where the hair’s damage is from heat styling and environmental influences. It is also the oldest part of the hair shaft so could use the moisture.
One last item, be sure to rinse your hair thoroughly. You don’t want to leave the product on your scalp, even if Aveda is much less harmful than most products.
